Visa buys CryptoPunk series NFT for $ 150,000

Visa is actively involved in promoting NFT technologies to its customers. On Monday, August 23, the payments giant announced the purchase of a non-fungible token from the CryptoPunk 7610 collection for $ 150,000 amid growing interest in the NFT industry.

A little information about CryptoPunk NFT

The CryptoPunks project was created in 2017 by the American studio Larva Labs. The company’s founders, Matt Hall and John Watkinson, developed the generator program that produced fun pop art-style portraits. CryptoPunks-these are 10,000 digital images 24 × 24 pixels. It is an ERC-721 token running on the Ethereum blockchain.

Each NFT has attributes: a skin color, eyes, a race, accessories. Of the 10,000 cryptopunks 6,039 are men and 3,840 are women. Only human punks have the gender attribute, but aliens, monkeys and zombies do not. Everyone has their personal page that details the characteristics and the complete history of transactions. However, only one person can officially own either cryptopunk.

On Monday, August 23, the payment company Visa announced the first purchase of a non-fungible token from the CryptoPunks project. The firm acquired one of the characters in the series for 49,50 Ethereum ($150,000).

“We are confident that CryptoPunks will be a great addition to our collection of artifacts that reflect the past, present and future. At the same time, CryptoPunks has become a pioneer in NFT technology, so our company has added a modern trend to its collection, ” said Kai Sheffield, head of Visa’s cryptocurrency department, in a conversation with The Block.

According to him, the company today owns works of art, including the first paper credit cards and the devices that sellers used to record transactions before the appearance of electronic sales stations.

The company is confident that NTFS will play a role in the future. According to Sheffield, sellers, brands and content platforms want to be part of the NFT space.
